It’s a bit too damp for trick or treating… so perhaps a trip to the cinema is the best plan for tonight. If you fancy a scare, UCD’s science film festival has just the thing for you: a screening of the Shining in the Lighthouse Cinema following by a panel discussion about the psychology of fear and psychosis!
This is the first night of the Science Expression Festival which runs until Sunday. It’s not too late to book tickets for any of the films… I just checked the Shining and there are tickets left. It’s at 8pm in case anyone is tempted.
I’m afraid of my own shadow so you won’t find me in the Lighthouse Cinema tonight but I was delighted to see there are loads of other genres of film and documentary to explore, including three Irish premiers. Two that seem pretty cool and I hope to pop along to are:
- You, Planet – An Exploration in 3D: From the photo (above), our bodies must be crawling with tiny mites and other organisms. This 60-minute film is all about ‘you’ at the microscopic level. Saturday @ 3pm, UCD Cinema
- Into Iceland’s Volcano: The trailor (below) is action-packed and full of suspense… will the researchers make it to the magma chamber? There will be a panel discussion following this film with a number of participant including Earth Institute artist in residence, Siobhán McDonald, and volcanologist, Björn Oddsson. Sunday @ 1.30pm, The Lighthouse Cinema
The UCD Science Expression Film Festival 2013 takes place from Thursday, 31st October to Sunday, 3rd November in locations across the city, with activities that seek to explore science from a new perspective, through film, art and digital media.
