The first event organised by the Women in SciComm Group is happening next Thursday 12th July. While discussing ideas for the group last month we realised there was no ‘women in science’ get-together happening during ESOF. This spurred us to organise an informal gathering of women in science. Our aim is to get like-minded women together for networking, support and perhaps some inspiration. It might even put you on the road to recovery after the awful shock of #ScienceGirlThing!

We’re hoping many women attending ESOF from Ireland and beyond will end their Thursday in the Project Arts Centre bar. We’ve timed it so that our meetup is after most events on Thursday night. We’d love you to invite scientists that you know or would like to meet as it is an ideal opportunity to chat in an informal setting. If you’d like me to contact any specific scientists, please let me know.

Niamh Shaw has kindly offered the Projects Arts Centre to us after her brilliant show ‘That’s About the Size Of It’ which I’ll be heading along to at 8pm. There are interesting panel discussions after each show (at 9.15pm) which everyone is invited to attend, regardless of whether they were at the show.

This is an open invite to scientists, science communicators and science enthusiasts alike. I hope to see you all there!
